Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell chances to win at Mount Panorama have ended following the Red Bull HRT Holden dropped a cylinder with 40 laps remaining.

When McLaughlin’s day ended early with an engine failure, all Whincup needed to do is finish solid top ten day, but that engine issue will even the score in the championship.

Whincup’s car sound to off tune, like McLaughlin’s engine did so Red Bull Holden Racing Team immediately pitted to replace the rocker and anything else they refuse to disclose.

With Mostert and Coulthard still in this race, it will be a big points day for them and Prodrive Racing’s Chaz Mostert could easily leave Bathurst as the points leader is he finishes on the podium.

McLaughlin won’t score any points today, but will Whincup score any points as the team tries to get him back out for some points?
