The BNT V8s finale was held at Hampton Downs raceway over the weekend where the class one and two championships would be decided.
Below is a brief recap of the action from Round 6 of the 2017/2018 BNT V8s Championship.
Richards Team Motorsport drivers Jason Bargwanna and Andre Heimgartner claimed both spots on the front row in qualifying. Bargwanna’s time 01:05.485 was enough to score pole position for class one. Other fellow championship contender Nick Ross finished third quickest.
In the second class, it was Brock Timperley grabbing pole with a time of 01:10.455 over Chelsea Herbett and Liam Macdonald.
Class three invitational was topped by Tony Anderson.
Jason Bargwanna ended up converting his pole position into a win as well as closing the championship gap over Heimgartner who dropped from second to fourth during the race, letting Nick Ross and Lance Hughes through to the podium finish.
Plenty of action in Class two, Chelsea Herbett and Liam Macdonald making contact on the final lap. Herbett made contact with the rear of the MacDonald Falcon, sending it into a spin.
Herbett crossing the line in third while Macdonald slipping down to fifth due to the contact. Timperley, Podjursky and Herbertt rounding out the podium.
Despite Bargwanna crossing the finish line in first, the Australian was later penalised due to a post race penalty with Chelsea Herbett. This elevated Nick Ross into first place as the race winner. Jack Smith and Andre Heimgartner finishing in second and third respectively.
Liam Macdonald extended his championship points in the second race, claiming the race win over competitors Brock Timperley and Matt Podjursky.
Australian driver Jack Smith won the last race of the season over Nick Ross and Bargwanna. Despite Bargwanna closing up the championship points yet again, it wasn’t enough and Heimgartner took out his first BNT V8 Championship.
Rookie of the year winner Brock Timperley claimed another win at Hampton Downs who was was followed to the line by MacDonald and Podjursky. Liam Macdonald claimed the class two championship back to back.
